The Winners Russell Jones wins the Australian & Oceanic Raceboard Title.

After three days of racing on Lake Illawarra in conditions ranging from calm to a 45knot “Southerly Buster” local windsurfer Russell Jones triumphed to win the coveted Australian & Oceanic Championship for International Class Raceboards.

Day 02 2009 Raceboard Oceanics
Monday, 26 January 2009 22:09

Byron McIlveen and Russel Jones lead after wild Day 2.
The day started with a light East/Noreast breeze which dropped to 0 knots on our way to the startline.  Racing eventually started after a surging 10 - 30 knot Norwesterly and large waves presented itself. Byron McIllveen displayed his windsurfing prowess by scoring firsts in all 3 races run. Equally impressive were local favourites Russ Jones, Mike Nelson and Alisha Kawalla, and current champion James Grunfelder. In the Silver fleet Damian Candusso has a strong grip on the title, and in the Junior fleet Kaitlyn Middleton scored another bullet to take a virtually unassailable lead. The last race of the day proved to be the most memorable for many Raceboarders. A "Southerly Buster" belted the lake just as half the fleet were finishing which resulted in an intense rescue mission. Day 01 2009 Raceboard Oceanics
Friday, 23 January 2009 21:25

Martin Thearle leads after a light wind day.
Day 01 Oceanic Windsurfing Raceboard Championships witnessed a gentle 5 - 10 knots with a 40+ turnout. The summer seabreeze didn't appear, leaving us with a light E-SE that died during the arvo, so only one race was completed. Martin Thearle on his Phantom 380 from Dobroyd Aquatic Club, Sydney, won the only race of the day narrowly edging out local Russell Jones (Open) 2nd following Mike Hockley 3rd in the overal placings. Kate Middleton scored her first victory in the Junior fleet earlier in the day, finishing ahead of Josh Nealy and Lauren Nealy. It was great to catch up with old friends and discuss all the new gear in peoples quivers. Check out the video and photos from day 01
